Certified by an official stenographer

When a filing calls for an official stenographer’s certificate: our verbatim transcript of the recording, in both languages, checked and certified by our partner official stenographer, accredited by the Barreau du Québec in French and in English.

When you need one

Quebec reserves the official record to accredited stenographers. The Barreau’s Comité sur la sténographie grants the accreditation, and grants it language by language.

B-1, r. 13

“The accreditation is valid for the methods and languages indicated thereon.”

Regulation respecting the training, skill and knowledge evaluation, accreditation and discipline of stenographers, CQLR c. B-1, r. 13, s. 1 · enabling Act: Stenographers’ Act, CQLR c. S-33, s. 3

Whether a filing calls for a stenographer’s certificate depends on the forum and on what the transcript is for: an appeal record, an application for judicial review, a transcript filed in evidence. Tell us where it is going and we will confirm what your filing needs.

How it works

  1. We transcribe the recording. Verbatim: French in French, English in English, every change of language marked, paginated and line-numbered.
  2. The stenographer checks it. Our partner official stenographer, accredited by the Barreau du Québec in French and in English, checks the transcript against the recording and certifies it in their own name.
  3. You file it. The certificate states that the transcript was prepared from a recording, so the court knows exactly what it is reading.

One quote, one invoice, one delivery. The certificate is the stenographer’s own, and so is the responsibility for it.

Both languages, one certificate

Because accreditation is granted by language, a stenographer accredited in French alone is not accredited for the English passages of a bilingual hearing, and only a minority of the roll holds both. Our partner holds both, so a bilingual record is certified by one person, in one certificate.

Questions

Can a transcript made from a recording be certified?
Yes. Official stenographers transcribe recordings as well as hearings they attend. The certificate says the transcript was prepared from a recording, so the court knows exactly what it is reading.
Do I need a certified transcript?
That depends on the forum and on what the transcript is for. Tell us where it is going and we will confirm what your filing needs. We do not give legal advice.
How long does it take?
The date is fixed in the quote, once we have heard the audio; the stenographer’s review is built into it.
What does it cost?
One quote covers the transcript and the certification. It is confirmed once the audio has been reviewed, before any work begins.

Send the recording, the forum and the deadline. We acknowledge receipt the same working day and confirm a firm price and date once the audio has been reviewed.
